Only the best is good enough!
The Curacao Laser Institute works with the most advanced, state-of-the-art laser equipment available, namely the most accurate and ultra modern 200HZ Allegretto WaveLight, developed by the WaveLight Company.
The Curacao Laser Institute offers a variety of solutions to your vision problems. We perform advanced, innovative treatments such as LASIK, LASEK, and PRK. And we work with only the most modern and accurate laser equipment, such as the 200HZ Allegretto WaveLight.
We usually treat both eyes in one visit. To make that visit as painless as possible, we use anesthetic eye drops with every procedure.
LASIK is the most common refractive surgery. This procedure reshapes the cornea, the clear covering over the front of the eye.
During LASIK, doctors create a circular flap in the cornea. Through this flap, they are able to access the corneal tissue underneath. Using a state-of-the-art excimer laser, they are then able to reshape the irregular cornea, quickly and with absolute precision. At the end of the procedure, the corneal flap is replaced and left to heal, without the need for stitches.
Patients undergoing LASIK receive anesthetic eye drops to make the treatment as painless as possible. The surgery usually takes 30 minutes or less and our patients often experience improved vision within a day.
Sometimes LASIK cannot be performed because the cornea is too thin. In these cases, we recommend LASEK or PRK.
The LASEK procedure is similar to LASIK. However, with LASEK the doctor does not cut a circular flap in the cornea. Instead, the doctor uses an alcohol solution to loosen the epithelium, the protective surface layer of the cornea. The epithelial layer is then folded back. The doctor proceeds to use the excimer laser — the same one used in LASIK and PRK — to re-shape the cornea. Finally, the epithelium is reattached to the eye.
The PRK procedure is almost the same as LASEK. The only difference is the epithelial layer is not reattached. It usually grows back in two to three days, during which time a temporary contact lens is placed over the eye to protect the cornea and minimize discomfort. Before LASIK, PRK was the most common refractive eye surgery.
